The Western Australia solar feed in tariff is yet another example of net metering abuse. This particular scheme focuses on offering the higher rate of 60 cents/kWh for excess energy fed into the grid up to the actual capital amount (cost of the system), however without a specific maximum (we dont know the limit as of this writing) the utility could refuse to approve projects above 5 kWp, effectively ensuring that the 60 cent premium will never be reached and the project will not reach break even before the premium expires. The political establishment has failed yet again to use their brains to design a feed in tariff scheme which will function and actually promote clean energy rather than lining utility profit margins.
