Shi Lishan, vice director of the National Energy Administration’s Renewable Energy Department, said the tariff will be 1.09 yuan (16 U.S. cents) per kilowatt hour for solar power that is supplied to the grid. This sounds nice, but according to internet sources, it is probably not the national feed in tariff which will actually be enacted, rather the tariff for one particular large project.
Either way, the tariff is so low, even for an initial project, that foreign investors will be limited to buying Chinese modules and inverters, as well as using Chinese firms to build the project if it is going to be profitable at all. Keeping the tariff low will ensure that the European module producers won't have a chance to import their products at market value. Protectionist policies work rather well in China. Another case of having their cake and eating it too.
It is still unclear if the above program will be the national standard, or if there will be different regional tariffs. Any further information, or corrections to our current listing are appreciated in the Contact Us section.
